National Institute of Technology Karnataka Invites Applications For The Post of Postgraduate Research Assistant

NITK  invites applications  from  young  bright  Engineering Postgraduates  to  work  as Postgraduate Research Assistants (PGRAs). This is a five year full-time assignment based on the `Teach While You Learn’ concept. Selected candidates will be required to assist the respective departments in teaching activities in addition to carrying out cutting edge  research  towards  award  of  Ph.D.  degree.

Eligibility:
Admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall be open to candidates who passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/ university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 or 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates. The prescribed qualifying examination for a Ph.D. in Engineering/Technology is a Master’s degree in the relevant field.
In addition, candidates shall also be tested for their aptitude in teaching through a presentation on a topic of his/her choice before an expert committee.



The salient features of the program are as follows:
• This scheme shall commence in the month of January 2013 and end in the month of December 2017 with enhanced assistantship provided for a maximum
period of 60 months.
• Opportunity given to bright M. Tech. students to ‘Teach while you learn’ with a provision for obtaining Ph.D. degree conforming to the existing NITK academic
regulations. Normally, course work shall be completed at the end of first three semesters and the remaining semesters shall be spent for the completion of
dissertation work.
• Candidates selected under this scheme are also expected to assist departments concerned  in  carrying  out  R&D  activities,  Consultancy  work  laboratory
development  including  preparation  of  instruction  manuals,  conducting  theory classes  and  laboratory  classes.  In  addition  publications  in  peer-reviewed
international journals are expected from their dissertation/ research work so as to meet the Key Performance Indicators of the TEQIP-II project.
• The selection procedure shall be the same as the existing procedures followed by the institute for the selection of Ph. D. Candidates

information bulletin applies only to institute scholarship seats and NOT to PGRA admissions.
Application form can be duly filled and sent to The Nodal Officer (Academic), TEQIP-II Unit, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, Srinivasnagar, Mangalore
-575 025, Karnataka State on or before 03-12-2012 along with a D.D. of Rs. 500/- (for SC/ST- Rs.150/-). drawn in favour of the  Director, N.I.T.K., Surathkal, payable  at State
Bank of India, or  Canara Bank, NITK, Campus Branch, Surathkal.
Applications which are incomplete/defective/received late are liable to be rejected summarily and no correspondence will be entertained on such applications.
